The track (indistinct on the ground) heads for an area of small coal pits in the headwaters of the gill and was probably used to transport coal on horseback. During a grey, overcast evening this was our brief moment in the sun as it blazed forth through a transient hole in the clouds. The vast moorland sprawl of Baugh Fell beyond.
