The foreground train is about to pass beneath a three-arched, brick-built footbridge having left Durham, heading south. The patches of orange (sawdust) to the left, above the railway cutting show where trees have been removed - perhaps Network Rail is on a mission to eradicate a potential hazard to uninterrupted running on the permanent way.
