The spaniels observe the catch and release of a fish at Wester Elchies totally unimpressed. Why would a human being stand waist deep in icy water for hours on end to maybe, only maybe catch a fish which he or she releases as quickly as possible? The spaniels are up there with lexicographer, Samuel Johnson who defined a fishing rod or angle as "an appliance with a worm at one end and a fool at the other".
