The footpath crosses Knott Moor which, surprisingly, is not classed as open access land despite being rough, uncultivated moorland. Beyond is Swinside farm below the steep flanks of Raven Crag. The superb Swinside stone circle (Sunkenkirk) is hidden in a slight dip in front of the farm.
