Opened in 1925, the village school closed down in July 2010. The decision to close the school (and one in Govilon) was made by the Welsh Assembly's education minister after Monmouthshire County Council selected them as candidates for closure to reduce the 400 surplus primary school places in the county. At closure, Llanover school had only 9 pupils.
