On the moor are several areas of gritstone outcrops which have weathered and broken up into remarkably flat, squared-off blocks. They almost look man-made but their remote location really rules that out. My guess is that there would originally have been a flat slab (possibly ice-smoothed) which has been broken up by freeze-thaw action.
