Victorian Anonymous pillarbox in Newport

Uploader's Comments

Located in Clyffard Crescent near the corner of Caerau Road, this is an example of a Victorian Anonymous pillarbox made at the Andrew Handyside of Derby foundry from 1879. The boxes are known as Anonymous because the royal cipher and the words Post Office are omitted. The high positioning of the posting slot sometimes led (leads?) to mail becoming caught under the rim of the cap.
