The small rural church contains a memorial plaque to those workers who lost their lives during the construction railway works between Settle and Dent Head. It is not known how many died, but of the 6000 workers employed in the construction of the Settle Carlisle railway, it is thought that fatal casualties amounted to well over 100 men.
