View of the south side of Carlton Church from the attractive churchyard where the daffodils are just going off. The original post-Norman church here burnt down and was replaced by this brick-built church with a square tower and stone facings in 1764. The new church was originally dedicated to St Michael but the dedication changed to St Andrew in 1867 when the windows were altered and the distinctive saddleback roof was added to the tower. The clock was presented to the village in 1937 by the rector's daughter, who raised the money by selling needlework door to door. Carlton ladies needlework tradition continues today with the wall hangings inside the church depicting houses in the village at the start of the new millennium.
