'Flemish' Chimney - Carew

Uploader's Comments

A sign of medieval ostentation adopted from styles of chimneys to be found in castles of the time and adopted by other prosperous citizens. The chimneys could be conical, cylindrical or even square in design and are associated with Flemish settlers in the area although such chimneys can be found down the western side of Britain from Cumbria to Cornwall. Many have been demolished, this example has been restored from the ruin it once was.
