At Moffat Mills. The river here flows between hard engineered banks. to the left was the site of the paper mills of which was supplied by water from a weir on the river further along. The path here which forms a stretch of the North Calder Heritage Trail is formerly the track bed of the Springbank Branch of the North British Railway. Comparison of old maps show that the river was straightened along this stretch with the removal of two meanders.
