In 2014 the decision was made to close the Secondary School on Skerries necessitating the pupils to spend the week boarding in Lerwick. The threat of closure has been fought off since the 1990s but now it seems that financial constraints have required this to happen. Currently two pupils are in the Secondary School - the smallest Secondary School in the UK.
