The hostel, opened in 1931, was the first in Scotland (see [[1135018]]). In 2011 it was under threat of closure but has been given another season before such a decision is taken - see http://www.thesouthernreporter.co.uk/news/local-headlines/youth-hostel-under-threat-may-get-another-year-1-1989067.
