Broad Eye Windmill

Uploader's Comments

Construction of the windmill was completed in 1796 and it is believed that some of the materials used may have been recovered from Stafford's old Shire Hall which was demolished at about the same time. It operated for about a century; by the 1880s it is known that the sails had been removed although the mill continued for a time using steam power. It subsequently became a warehouse and a butcher's shop, but was abandoned in 1932. It is now conserved by the Borough Council in conjunction with the Friends of Broad Eye Windmill.
