The huts stand beside an estate road in Well Hope, a subsidiary valley of Weardale. The land beyond the gate although quite clearly now moorland was until some years ago under coniferous trees though they have been felled and most evidence of them has been removed. There are tree stumps but very few compared to other clear-felled forestry areas.
