This reads WATERLOO WOOD RAISED FROM ACORNS SOWN IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE MEMORABLE BATTLE OF WATERLOO, WHERE VICTORY WAS ACHIEVED BY THAT GREAT CAPTAIN OF THE AGE, HIS GRACE THE DUKE OF WELLINGTON, COMMANDING THE BRITISH FORCES AGAINST THE FRENCH ARMS, COMMANDED BY NAPOLEON BONAPARTE THE 18TH JUNE 1815 WHICH MOMENTOUS VICTORY, GAVE GENERAL PEACE TO EUROPE.
