On 22nd March 2013, Southwest Scotland was hit by heavy snow and high winds, leading to many roads being blocked by deep snowdrifts. Kirkcowan was cut off for several hours and many motorists were stranded on the A75 near Newton Stewart and on the A714 near Wigtown.
