This well-built cairn is about 100 metres north-north-west of the summit trig. Cairns of this type (sometimes known as 'stone men' or, in northern England, 'curricks') can mislead walkers (especially in mist) into thinking that they have reached the summit when they have not. The point is that they are not built to mark the highest point of a hill: they are located to be conspicuous on the skyline when seen from the valley below.
