Landing on the rocks after transferring from Donald MacLeod's boat, one proceeds towards the old village site through dunes above the beach. This looks an idyllic spot, but from a practical point of view there were always big disadvantages, one being the lack of any jetty or harbour for boats, thus they had to be small enough to drag up on to the beach.
