Bell Hill, Scottish Borders

Iron Age fort and iron gate-fastening

Uploader's Comments

View northwesterly toward the site of the Iron Age fort on Bell Hill, from a gate on the path from the A699 to Lindean Nature Reserve. This type of gate-fastening was new to me, but turned out to be quite common in this area, and I like it! - so much easier to operate than chains/hooks/sliding-bolts/worn binder-twine, and, on stepping through to the other side, looping the circle round the top of the gate keeps it tightly shut to the post. Excellent!
