The B5286 between Clappersgate and Hawkshead is a narrow but busy road, dangerous for walkers. So along much of its length footpaths such as this have been constructed. No doubt for legal reasons these are 'permissive paths' rather than Rights of Way, but it is difficult to see any landowner forcing walkers back into the road!
