Backside Fell, County Durham

Old mine workings at Dubby Sike

Uploader's Comments

A not very obvious line of old shafts runs across the moor here in a south westerly direction [fencing can just be seen around one shaft], but were they for lead or barytes extraction? Also visible in the distance are a line of grouse butts, and on the far right a curious small plantation of conifers, seemingly for no purpose.
