Looking fairly benign in some summer sunshine, this is a large and can be dangerous mire only fairly safe in the driest of summers. All the area in the photo and more either side make up the mire. The actual Aune or Avon Head is on the right just below the skyline. The small black mound left of centre on the skyline is the spoil heap at the disused Red Lake China Clay Works. Taken from the Sandy Way, an ancient path skirting the mire.
