The awe-inspiring structure dominates the valley of Arten Gill and is one of two tremendous viaducts built by the navvies across the head of Dentdale. Artengill has the tallest piers http://www.transportheritage.com/find-heritage-locations.html?sobi2Task=sobi2Details&sobi2Id=373 beating even the much longer Ribblehead Viaduct by a few metres. Eagle-eyed film buffs will have noticed that Artengill Viaduct appeared very briefly in a scene from the 2006 film 'Miss Potter' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Potter when the Potter family were supposedly heading to the Lake District on holiday (they were going in the wrong direction and also on the wrong rail line!).
