The large fencepost marks the former position of Annaside Banks trig pillar, which fell down the cliffs during the winter of 2005/2006. Apparently it's still down there somewhere, in the general debris of the fallen cliff, but I missed it when I scrambled down. It will appear on the beach one of these days, no doubt.
