It never ceases to depress me when I find out how limited your abilities are to travel freely in England. Even the footpath network is too much for the privileged few - here in Herefordshire paths are being closed on the excuse of "dangerous bridges". Of course there are no funds to replace them. This is an interesting example - there being no mapped watercourse on the line of the path - the bridge is probably over a ditch. What is wrong with being able to make up ones own mind as to its crossability, or going to the obstacle and returning?
