This wetland area was created a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1998 for its importance as wet heath and marshy grassland, a habitat for the Marsh Fritillary butterfly. Eleven species of dragonfly, orchids, otters and other valuable wildlife have been recorded on the Moor which is administered by the Countryside Council for Wales.
