A crescent shaped dry valley swings around from Mapledurham, northwest of Chazey Wood and terminates here at the 18th green. It makes for a par 4 hole of 415 yards, the 9th most difficult of the course (ie. stroke index 9). Above the valley is the tee for the first, again a par 4 but only 370 yards in length thus stroke index 10. On this beautiful December morning a light frost has melted in the sunshine but persists on this steep, west facing slope.
