The mansion house of Milton-Lockhart was built in 1829 for William Lockhart, at a site chosen by Sir Walter Scott. The house was, however, bought by a Japanese businessman in the 1980s who dismantled it and rebuilt it in Japan. It seems, however, that new owners have built (or are building)a house similar to the original.
