Mapperley Reservoir dam - 1

Uploader's Comments

Looking north along Shipley Lane, which here forms the dam of the Mapperley Reservoir. The reservoir was built in 1821 to supply water to the Nutbrook Canal. The canal was built in 1791-6, but it always suffered from water-loss and several reservoirs were built on the Shipley Estate to solve the problem.
