Cotton Grass on Hay Fell

Uploader's Comments

Much of the access land which comprises the upper parts of the fell is poorly drained with patches of cotton grass. Most of the fell is devoid of walkers' paths although quad bike tracks and sheep tracks feature. Beyond, are the twin summits of the fell, known as Benson Knott holding a trig point (317m, right) and summit cairn (319m, the slightly higher left top). Even on a lovely June evening we saw no other walkers and found no litter. Obviously, the lure of the nearby Lake District is too great for most to bother with this outlying fell.
