Joining the old railway line

Uploader's Comments

Cyclists on the 2015 British Heart Foundation ride from Winchester to Eastbourne join the course of the Meon Valley Railway line at Meonstoke; a short flat stretch of the route. The line originally joined Fareham to Alton, opening in 1903, and closing to passenger traffic in the mid 1950s (well before Dr Beeching would have undoubtedly seen it off). Some freight services continued into the early 1960s, they gradually reduced and by 1968 those had ceased too.
