The fishing station was founded by a Peterhead merchant towards the end of the 18th century. He is remembered as a hard so-and-so but not as bad as his son, whose clearance of his tenants made even the Duke of Sutherland blench. (Admittedly the 2nd Duke, not his swine of a father, but still...)
