Towton, township, Saxton par., E. div. West-Riding Yorkshire, 2½ miles S. of Tadcaster, 885 ac., pop. 93; Towton Hall is the property of the Hawkes; the battle of Towton, between the Lancastrians and the Yorkists, was fought March 1461.
