Stokesley, market town, par., and township with ry. sta., North-Riding Yorkshire, on river Leven, 9 miles SE. of Stockton - par., 15,937 ac., pop. 2395; township, 1818 ac., pop. 1802; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks, 1 newspaper. Market-day, Saturday. Stokesley has a church rebuilt in 1777, a town-hall of 1853, and an endowed school. The industries comprise mfrs. of linen and gunpowder.
