Stalbridge, town and par. with ry. sta., Dorset, in NE. of co., 4 miles NW. of Sturminster Newton and 7 miles S. of Wincanton, 5681 ac., pop. 1816; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Stalbridge is an ancient place, and was known at Domesday as Staplebridge. The church is very old. Markets are held every alternate Monday, and there are horse and cattle fairs twice a year. Stone quarrying is carried on. Stalbridge gives title to Lord Stalbridge.
