St Mawes, market town, St Just in Roseland par., Cornwall, on St Mawes Harbour, 3 miles E. of Falmouth; P.O., T.O. Market-day, Friday. St Mawes is an old town, and stands along the shore at the foot of a hill. It sent 2 members to Parliament from 1562 until 1832. A national school, a coastguard station, and several chapels are here. Cables and ropes for small craft are manufactured. St Mawes Castle (1542) stands on a headland N. of the harbour, and is strongly fortified.
