Sawley.-- vil. with ry. sta., Derbyshire, and par. and township, partly also in Leicestershire - par. (containing Long Eaton), 3959 ac., pop. 7596; township (Sawley with Wilsthorpe), 1860 ac., pop. 1379; vil., on river Trent, 1 mile mile S. of Sawley sta., which is 7 miles SE. of Derby; P.O. Sawley is a prosperous place, and was once a market town; it has an ancient church and a national school, and partakes in the industrial prosperity of LONG EATON: which see.
