Purley, 2½ miles S. of Croydon, Surrey; P.O., T.O. Purley House, formerly the property of Bradshaw who presided at the trial of Charles I., was the residence of John Horne-Tooke (1736-1812), philologist and political writer, who wrote here his Diversions of Purley.
