Newmilns (and Greenholm), town with ry. sta., Loudoun par., Ayrshire, on river Irvine, 7½ miles E. of Kilmarnock, pop. (including 741 in Greenholm, on the opposite side of the river, in Galston par.) 2860; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks; has beautiful environs. Muslin weaving is the staple industry. Newmilns was made a burgh of barony by royal charter in 1490, and it is now a police burgh.
