Laycock, par. and vil., Wilts, on river Avon, 3 miles SW. of Chippenham, 3639 ac., pop. 1171; P.O., T.O. The seat called Laycock Abbey was the residence of W. H. Fox Talbot (1800-1877), inventor of the "Talbo-type;" the abbey was founded as an Augustinian nunnery in 1232, and still retains many of its monastic features.
