Kilbarchan, town and par., Renfrewshire - par., 9006 ac., pop. 6868; town, on Kilbarchan Burn, 1½ mile W. of Johnstone and 12 W. of Glasgow, pop. 2548; P.O., 1 Bank; has mfrs. of silks, cottons, and Paisley shawls, and in the vicinity are printworks, quarries, and coal and iron mines. In a niche in the town steeple is a statue of Habbie Simpson, the famous piper of Kilbarchan. On an isolated eminence on the E. side of the town are remains of an old encampment.
