Horwich, town and townnship wnth ry. sta., Deane par., SE. Lancashire, 17¼ miles NW. of Manchester by rail, 3254 ac., pop. 3761; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank; bleaching, dyeing, cotton-spinning, and paper-making, also terra cotta works, are the industries. Coal mines and stone quarries are largely worked, and in the vicinity is one of the reservoirs of the Liverpool waterworks.
