Brampton.-- par. and market town, E. Cumberland, 9 miles NE. of Carlisle by rail, 10,269 ac. (2 water), pop. 3438; p.o., t.o., 2 Banks. Market-day, Wednesday; has tweed mfrs. The town was occupied by the insurgents in 1715, and again in 1745.
