Former St George's episcopal kirk, Folla Rule

Uploader's Comments

The church was apparently founded in 1716 when Alexander Lunan, the minister of Daviot established kirk (about 5 km south) was removed (or resigned) due to his High-Church sympathies and association with the 'Fifteen uprising (see p. 83, Scottish Episcopal Clergy 1689-2000 by David Bertie). The present building dates from 1796, with several rebuilds in the 19th Century including the addition of the overbearing tower in 1897, designed by prominent Aberdeen architect Arthur Clyne. The kirk is now converted to residential use. B-listed (LB9586): http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB9586 .
