Upper Bitterns Wood, Staffordshire

Down train of new carriages at site of Madeley Station

Uploader's Comments

View southwards, towards Stafford, Rugby and London; ex-London & North Western West Coast Main line. The masts and wires for electrification are up, but it was four years before electric trains reached London (Euston). The train, running under Class C headlamps, is headed by Hughes/Fowler 5P4F 2-6-0 No. 42852. Madley Station had long been closed to passengers, on 4/2/52.
