This long bridge is in two sections but may well have been built as a single structure. The camera position is at the south end of the bridge, just to the east of the Shildon outpost of the National Railway Museum. That part of the bridge which crosses railway tracks of both the museum and the active railway has a wooden planked footway down its centre and secondary fenced 'parapets' within the original sides of the structure. Those secondary fences prevent easy access to the original bridge sides - clearly a safety measure. The farther part of the bridge however which is over a road or footpath has no such defence and one could easily jump from there - but not on to railway lines!
