Stackpole Head, Pembrokeshire

Western approach to Stackpole Head

Uploader's Comments

In the foreground, a fault has encouraged dissolution of the rock, leaving a dip in the otherwise-flat surface, filled with superficial deposits. The latter derive partly from insoluble components of the rock, but mainly from the ground-down remains of Triassic ("New Red Sandstone") rocks that overlay the Carboniferous Limestone here before the Ice Age. To the left is the top of a blowhole.
