Pitchurst Copse, West Sussex

Ancient trackway descending from the top of Glatting Hangar

Uploader's Comments

I photographed this ancient track while searching the area for the rare green hellebore (Helleborus viridis) for the forthcoming New Flora of Sussex. (I am an amateur botanist) The record for this plant exists in earlier floras but the correct location for it has not been seen since the 1990's. I was searching for that location. Where I took the photograph the track descends gradually but rapidly steepens. An area where pheasants are reared was nearby so this track was clearly still used by gamekeepers.
