Peggles Wright Plantation, Cumbria

Big cairn, Kirk Bank Quarry

Uploader's Comments

The quarry is a series of small workings for flagstone, a thinly bedded fine-grained sandstone, and now abandoned and grassed over. The stone would have been used for local houses and farm buildings. Perhaps the quarrymen built this fine pillar as an advert for the quality of their product and workmanship? There is another, much smaller cairn close by.
